Catanzaro was a Greek colony in the land of the ancient Scolacium. The sightseeing with our tour guides starts from the historical centre through narrow streets and alleys at the Grecìa, the oldest quarter of the town. Here you can visit the Church of the Carmine with its bell tower and the oratory; then you continue to the nearby Palazzo dei Nobili, where is the Town Hall, and to the Villa Margherita, also known as Villa Trieste, a large park which was dedicated to the Queen of Italy where she visited the town in 1881. So you reach the Norman Cathedral which was dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta and the Apostles, Peter and Paul.
Returning to Corso Mazzini (the high street,) you continue to Piazza Matteotti, the begin of the modern part of the town and where is a monumental fountain called “Il Cavatore“. At the end a visit inside the MARCA Catanzaro Art Museum which houses a collection of 800s and 900s paintings.
It’s very interesting the Mediterranean Biodiversity Park where there are the CRAS, Wildlife Recovery Centr,e and the MUSMI, Historical Military Brigade Museum of Catanzaro.
