Gerace is a medieval village about 2 hours far from Reggio Calabria and a member of the Club “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy“, situated in a panoramic position overlooking the Jasmine Riviera on the Ionian Sea. The sightseeing starts with our tour guides from the “Porta del Sole” (the Door of the Sun) until Piazza del Tocco where is the Town Hall inside the Grimaldi-Serra Palace. Then you reach Piazza Tribuna which overlooks the great Romanesque-Norman Cathedral which is considered one of the largest church in Calabria. We continue to the Piazza delle Tre Chiese (the Square of the 3 Churches) where you can admire the Church of the Sacred Heart (XIX century), the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Gothic style and the Greek-Orthodox Church of St. Giovanniello. So you first go up to the Norman Castle and then come down to Piazza della Repubblica (the Republic Square) where there is the Church of Santa Maria del Mastro. It’s very interesting to walk through the streets full of pottery workshops.
