Reggio Calabria was an ancient town of the Magna Greece which was called Rhegion. The sightseeing with our tour guides starts with a visit to the National Archaeological Museum which houses the famous Riace Bronzes. Then we move to the historical center, along the high street “Corso Garibaldi” which is parallel to the promenade: here there are several liberty style palaces and the Cathedral, in liberty style and neo-romantic, too. At the top of the old town you arrive to the Aragonese Castle with four towers. So we go back down to the promenade which was called “the most beautiful kilometer in Italy” by the famous Italian writer D’Annunzio. If you want to continue the visit you could go to the Planetarium where you can observe the astronomical phenomena at day and night.
