Altomonte is a village about 45 minutes far from Cosenza and member of the Club “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy“, which was once Sangineto family’s feud and Severino’s one later. The sightseeing with our tour guides starts from the Church of St. Francesco from Paola, with its convent and the Town Hall which houses a permanent art gallery. Then we continue to the Church of St. Giacomo, one of the most important for this village, and the Norman Tower which is known as the Pallotta’s, where you can visit the “Franco Azzinnari” Museum of Contemporary Art. Not far away you get to the Prince’s Castle, a Norman building which has been converted into a hotel and restaurant for wedding party, and finally to the main square where is the Madonna of Consolation Church, a beautiful Gothic building with large rose window. From the cloister of the adjacent Dominican convent we go to the Civic Museum which houses works of art from several churches.
