A food and wine itinerary in Calabria at Lamezia Terme and Cirò where the mild climate helps the wine grape growing thanks to the sea and the air from the mountains. Moreover this places have got a great food and wine tradition giving a variety of wonderful products. This itinerary has made with the collaboration of AIS Associazione Italiana Sommelier.
Day 1 – Journey and arrive to hotel in Lamezia T./Cirò
Day 2 – In the morning sightseeing of farmin Lamezia Terme which has a great tradition in a world of wine using modern tecnology, too. Tasting of its main products, oil and wine, with some cheese and salame. In the afternoon visit to another Wine Cellar where it’s possible to taste its wine and some typical products of this land.
On request at Lamezia Terme it is possible to visit the Sweden Castle, the Cathedral dating back 1101 and the Archaeological Museum.
Day 3 – In the morning guided visit to the Farm at Cirò Marina, between Sibari and Crotone which are 2 important tourist archaeological centres. From the blue of the Ionian Sea to the green of the mountains of Sila, this farm produces wines which have international fame. Tasting wine with local products. In the afternoon visit to a biological farm situated on the rolling hill of Strongoli. Walk between the rows of vines learning how they transform the grapes into their good wine. Tasting of local products.
It’s possible on request to visit the Castellated Tower in Torre Melissa, one of the finest examples of watch towers on the Ionian coast, which houses the Museum of Rural Life.
Day 4 – In the morning sightseeing and tasting at a small farm in Cirò which make wine following a biological method. In the afternoon visitof a company which produces the “sardella”, very little fishes with hot red pepper, flavored with wild fennel.
At Cirò you could visit the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Itria, the Saracens Markets, an ancient place of commerce of the Turkish merchants, and the Archaeological Museum.
