The seaside holiday in Calabria (Southern Italy) for enjoying some relaxing moments on the Ionian sea cost and sightseeings of cultural and artistic places in this beautiful land.
Day 1 the trip
Transfer by coach to Sellia Marina, a village on the Ionian coastside nearby Catanzaro. Dinner and overnight at the 3 star hotel “Triton Villas“.
Day 2 Le Castella and relax
Breakfast at the hotel. A half day sightseeing of Le Castella where there is a forteresse on the sea, once the point to control the cost against enemies. Afternoon on the beach. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 San Floro and Squillace
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to San Floro, the village of the silk, which is on the sweet hills overlooking the Ionian sea. Guided visit of the Museum of the Silk which is inside an old Castle of the 1400s. Transfer to a farm where a little company produces pure silk with traditional methods. The farm is in a wood of mulberry trees, and after a brief walk you arrive in a room where the silkworms are kept. Than the fascinating “reeling” demonstration which shows the unwinding of the cocoon to get the silk thread. In the afternoon continue the discover of the old traditions: sightseeing of Squillace, very famous for the ceramics, with its Cathedral, the Castle and the several workshops. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 Stilo and transfer to Siderno
Breakfast at the hotel. Guided visit at the superb Catholic in Stilo, a rare example of Byzantine art. Lunch at the restaurant. In the afternoon transfer to the 4 star hotel “Grand Hotel President” in Siderno. Free time to enjoy the sea at the private beach of the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Gerace and relax
Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing of Gerace, a medieval village and member of the Club “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy” overlooking the Jasmine Riviera on the Ionian Sea. It’s famous for the presence of several churches and the great Romanesque-Norman Cathedral which is considered one of the largest church in Calabria. Then a walk through the streets full of pottery workshops up to the Norman Castle. Lunch at the hotel. Afternoon on the beach. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 6 Reggio Calabria and Scilla
Breakfast at the hotel. Guided visit of Reggio Calabria, the Riace Bronzes hosted at the ‘Magna Grecia’ National Archaeological Museum, the Chatedral and a walk along the promenade which was called ‘the most beautiful kilometer in Italy‘ by the famous Italian writer D’Annunzio. Lunch at the local restaurant. In the afternoon sightseeing of Scilla with the Ruffo’s Castle and its picturesque fishing quarter called “Chianalea” where the old houses stay in the sea. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 7 the Trip
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to come back home.
