Day by Day

A 8 day tour of the whole Calabria, all inclusive with sightseeing of the villages and hamlets.

DAY 1 - Arrive in Calabria

Arrive in Calabria. Check in to the 4**** star hotel in Reggio Calabria.

DAY 2 - Reggio Calabria and Scilla

Breakfast at the hotel. Guided walking tour of Reggio Calabria, the Riace Bronzes, the Cathedral and the promenade which was defined by the writer D’Annunzio “the most beautiful kilometer of Italy“. In the afternoon sightseeing of Scilla, with its picturesque fishing quarter called “Chianalea” and the Ruffo’s Castle. Come back to hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 3 - Gerace e tasting in a winery

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Gerace: sightseeing of a local vineyard and tasting wine with typical products. Light lunch at the farm. In the afternoon guided visit of Gerace important little town of art called “monumental historical centre” with several churches and palaces and one of the biggest Cathedral in Calabria. Come back to hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 4 - Tropea and Pizzo

Breakfast at the hotel. Guided visit of Tropea, one of the most famous place of Calabria, a historical centre which is characterized by narrow streets and unforgettable views over the sea. Lunch at the typical restaurant. In the afternoon sightseeing of Pizzo Calabro,where you can taste the famous ice cream called “Tartufo” (truffle), enjoying the view of the castle where Gioacchino Murat dead. Very interesting is the Church of Madonna from Piedigrotta, which is in a cave on the beach and where the sculptures were carved from the rock inside. Then transfer to 4**** hotel in Rende/Cosenza. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 5 - The Silk of San Floro and visit of Cosenza

Breakfast at the hotel and departure to San Floro the village of the silk situated on the hills near Catanzaro which face on the Ionian Sea. we start from the Museum of Silk which is situated inside an old castle of the 1400s with an exhibition of handmade clothes and many other old tools. Then we continue to a farm where they breed the silkworms where you can take part in the “reeling” activity, which is the unwinding of the cocoon to get the silk thread. Lunch at the farm with their organic products. In the afternoon come back to Cosenza and sightseeing of the old part of the town, with a stop at the medieval Cathedral, the “A. Rendano” Theatre, the Palace of Government and the Villa Comunale, an old park with several centenarians trees. In the modern part of the town along its high street, Corso Mazzini you can admire the Open Air Museum MAB where there are several statues made by important artists such as Manzù, Giorgio De Chirico, Salvator Dalì, Mimmo Rotella, Sosno. At the end a walk along the new “San Francesco di Paola bridge” which was designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the highest in Europe. Come back to hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 6 - The byzantine Rossano Calabro

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Rossano and sightseeing of Santa Maria del Patire Abbay (XII century a.C.) situated on about 600 mt above sea level, on the mountains of the Greek Sila: inside some pieces of the original floor with precious mosaics representing animal figures. At the end visit of the Amarelli family’s Museum of Liquorice. Luch at the local restaurant. In the afternoon sightseeing of the Rossano historical centre with its Byzantine historical centre and the Diocesan Museum, where is the famous Codex Purpureus, a Greek Gospels of the sixth century. Come back hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 7 - Morano Calabro and Civita

Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing of Morano Calabro on a mountainside in the Pollino National Park, belonging to “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy“, a Club which selects small Italian towns cut off the flow of visitors and tourists. Then a visit the Museum of Rural Life to know more about traditions of these people. Lunch at local agriturismo. In the afternoon a guided walk in Civita, a little village which was founded by a group of Albanian who escaped from the Ottoman invasion in the 1500s. Along the streets in the historical centre you can admire the carachteristic “Kodra” houses which look like a real human face. Civita is known also for the Devil's bridge over the Raganello Gorges. Come back to the hotel: dinner with folk music entertainment and overnight.

DAY 8 - Departure

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for coming back home. (any transfer in addition and on request)
