Hospitality has a great value in Calabria and, like other things of this land, it has its roots in its thousand-year old history.
We have to remember that Calabria was a colony of the ancient Greece and called Magna Grecia by historians. In fact, in Greek culture, the word filoxenìa which means the spontaneous love for foreigners, is a fundamental value of hospitality which becomes almost sacred.
This value is still authentic and handed down to the present day especially in those villages where the traditions are kept alive.
Among the hospitable villages stand out San Donato di Ninea and Nicotera.
San Donato di Ninea, called the Welcome Village, is surrounded by the outstanding nature of Pollino National Park. It is famous for its centuries-old chestnut groves making its chestnut the main ingredient of its delicious gastronomy.
Nicotera, instead, it is called the Hospitality Village, located on the Coast of Gods and at South of the famous Tropea. Here every year the Hospitality Festival is organized which involves professionals and consultants to talk about the world of tourism and new ways of doing hospitality.
